Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You take a clear position in favour of banning smoking, and you give relevant reasons, including harm to health and the possible effects on young people. The references to lung disease and protecting future generations show an attempt to explain why you agree. However, the response addresses the issue only partially: it does not consider the implications of making smoking illegal, such as enforcement or personal choice, and several claims are asserted rather than explained. For example, the link between banning smoking and children becoming “more educated” is unclear. To develop the response further, explain each main reason with a specific example and address at least one possible counterargument before reaffirming your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a recognisable overall direction: you state your view, give reasons related to health and young people, and finish by restating the benefits of avoiding smoking. Some linking expressions, such as “if” and “After government take this step,” also show an effort to connect ideas. However, the response is presented as one long paragraph, so its stages are difficult to distinguish. Ideas are often added in a list, and the progression becomes repetitive, particularly in the repeated references to young people and the country’s future. Some connections are unclear, such as the move from a smoking ban to better education. Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons, and conclusion, and make each sentence build on the previous one.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “lungs disease,” “addicted,” “government,” and “good health,” so the reader can identify the subject and your main concerns. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “young,” “future,” and “good.” Frequent spelling and word-form errors, such as “dangers,” “ciggret,” “tobbacoo,” and “personalited,” make the writing harder to read. Some combinations are also unnatural, for example “number of problem in their body.” Build a more precise set of health and policy terms, and check spelling and collocations. More accurate phrases such as “respiratory diseases” and “public health” would help express your ideas clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer conditional sentences, for example, “if young children will start smoking at young age…” This shows an effort to connect causes and consequences, but the longer structures are often faulty and the overall range remains limited. Errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries occur frequently: “The government should be ban these type” and “After government take this step early this will be very helpful” are difficult to process. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with long run-on sentences and missing spaces after full stops. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then build longer sentences using correct forms such as “If children start smoking at a young age, they may…”
