Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the mdoern world, people face a lot of health problems because of smoking. However, smoking can cause serious illnesses and should be made lilegal. I agree with this statement because many people have died and it can create a neagtive impact on other people. This essay will discuss why I agree with this view.
One major reason is that a number of people have died because of smoking. This is because it is very detrimental to health. When individuals smoke a lot, their heart and lever can be damaged. For example, navy cigarettes are created by pernicious ingridents, which can lead to serious health problems. However, the government should prohibit smoking. if the government implements this legislation, people can stay safe and they may lead a healthy life. As a result, over smoking can be harful to health, therefore, it should be made illegal.
Another reason is that general people may suffer from various health disease because of smoker. The main reason is that most smoker are not meticulous about smoking because they are used to smoking anywhere. While smoking, other people cannot tolerate the smell of cigarettes because it reflects a lot of virous. For instance, my father is a smoker and he smokes a lot. When my mother stay with my father, she often gets ill because she cannot undergo the bad smell of smoking. As a result , this smell can create a negative impact on other people.
In conclusion, since smoking lead to serious problems to health, it should be banned and people should be aware of smoking. Although many people are engaged in this bad habit, they should give up this activity because it can cause illnesses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that smoking should be prohibited, and you give two relevant reasons—harm to smokers and effects on other people. The example about your father and mother helps illustrate second-hand smoke. However, the response only partially develops the argument. The claim that “a number of people have died” is not supported with evidence or a specific explanation, and the discussion of government legislation does not consider how a ban might work or why it would be effective. The point about illness from smoke is relevant but remains general. To strengthen the response, explain each reason more fully and use a precise example or supporting detail. The essay also needs to make the extent of your agreement explicit beyond simply stating that you agree.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and each body paragraph focuses on a separate reason. This gives the reader a basic route through your argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and linking expressions are repetitive or awkward. For example, “As a result” appears to introduce conclusions that do not always follow clearly from the preceding point, while “However” does not express a contrast in “However, the government should prohibit smoking.” The opening also promises to discuss the view without previewing the two reasons. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example directly to its claim, and choose linking words according to the relationship between ideas. This would make the organisation more consistent and less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “serious illnesses,” “detrimental to health,” “prohibit,” and “negative impact,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or unnatural choices make parts difficult to interpret. “Navy cigarettes” and “virous” do not communicate a clear meaning, while “general people” and “health disease” are not natural expressions in this context. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “mdoern,” “lilegal,” and “neagtive.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than inserting uncommon words that do not fit. Proofreading spelling and checking the meaning and use of each chosen word would improve clarity and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if the government implements this legislation, people can stay safe” and a subordinate clause beginning “When individuals smoke a lot.” However, errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to follow. Examples include “most smoker are not meticulous,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “When my mother stay with my father,” where the verb form is incorrect. The sentence beginning “As a result, over smoking can be harful to health, therefore…” joins ideas with faulty punctuation. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and spacing after punctuation. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for these patterns.
