Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you agree that smoking should be illegal, and you give relevant reasons, including illness, effects on children, and financial cost. However, the response addresses the task only partially because these points are mostly asserted rather than explained or supported with a specific example. The claim that smoking causes “fever,” for instance, is not clearly connected to your argument, and the discussion of money does not fully explain why this supports a legal ban. The conclusion repeats your view but adds little. The response is also below the required 250 words. Develop two or three relevant reasons in more depth, use accurate supporting examples, and explain how each reason justifies making smoking illegal.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, a main paragraph, a further paragraph, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “In addition,” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between points. However, the main paragraph combines health effects, children, and personal spending without a clear progression, and several ideas repeat, particularly the claims that smoking harms health and wastes money. Some transitions are mechanical, while sentence boundaries and capitalization make the flow less smooth—for example, “smoking may reduce…” follows a full stop with a lowercase letter, and “so it is a serious issues” begins abruptly. Group related ideas into separate paragraphs and use clearer references and transitions to show how each point develops.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “serious illnesses,” “lifespan,” “heart attack,” and “illegal,” so the reader can generally understand your subject and position. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “desease,” “cigarattes,” “weeds,” and “detoriate.” Some phrases are also unnatural or unclear, including “smoking person fall in a heart disease” and “lead human life unhealthy.” Aim for accurate collocations and more precise terms: for example, describe smoking as increasing the risk of heart disease rather than saying a person “fall[s] in” it. Proofreading spelling and choosing standard expressions will make your argument easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use clauses to connect ideas, as in “Smoking should be made illegal as it causes serious illness.” However, the range of sentence structures remains limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response difficult to read. Examples include “that child get affected,” where subject–verb agreement is missing, and “smoking person fall,” which also has an agreement problem. The sentence “smoking may reduce a lifespan of a person because it can affect directly to human body” has problems with articles and sentence construction. Punctuation and capitalization are inconsistent, including lowercase sentence openings and missing spaces after full stops. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled subordinate clauses.
