Student answer (Band 5.5)
I strongly believe on this term. Smoking not only cause problems for the person who smokes but also cause problems to the surroundings as well as other people. Smoking causes respiratory diseasei, it can harm nearly every organ in human body. Smoking cause organ failure, repiratory problems, cancer, bone destruction and so on. These diseases doesn't only happen to smokers it also happen to the non smokers who lives of stays to close to them. Not only that it also cause many problems in our environment. As the nicotine is released into the air it pollutes it. Nicotine release at least 5000 other chemicals with it. It releases carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and so on. This type of gases also effect the earths ozone layer. It can turn into a huge problem for us and other living things.
The reason I think smoking should banned in public area is to save the non smokers and to stop smoking littering. As in my country people openly smokes even if there in infant or small children many people do not stop the act. They know the consequences of this act but still deny to maintain a basic hygiene. There has been many campaign for this but those kind of people doesn't heed to anyone accept the law. So if this is banned they will naturally try to hide ro smoke. That will be the forst step to stop this harmful thing. In my perspective smoking should be made illegal for genaral health crisis, environmental distress and economical cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you support making smoking illegal, and you give relevant reasons involving harm to smokers and bystanders, environmental effects, and public health. The example of people smoking near infants and children helps connect the argument to everyday life. However, the response does not fully address the distinction between banning smoking in public places and making smoking illegal altogether; these are different policies, and your argument mainly supports restrictions in public areas. Some claims, such as the effect of cigarette emissions on the ozone layer and the economic cost, are asserted rather than explained. Clarify the scope of the proposed ban and develop fewer points with specific reasoning or evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has an overall progression from health effects, to environmental concerns, and then to the case for a public ban. The second paragraph also gives a practical example, so the reader can follow your main position. However, the first paragraph contains many claims in a sequence, with limited explanation of how they connect to the argument. Linking phrases such as “Not only that” and “So” are understandable but somewhat mechanical, and references such as “this type of gases” and “those kind of people” are not always clear or precise. Use clearer paragraph focus, and connect each reason explicitly to why prohibition would address it. A more developed conclusion could also summarise the argument rather than introduce several broad costs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “respiratory disease,” “organ failure,” “cancer,” “chemicals,” and “environmental distress,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “maintain a basic hygiene” and “general health crisis,” though some combinations are unnatural or imprecise. Spelling errors and word-choice problems—including “repiratory,” “forst,” “genaral,” and “effect” where “affect” is intended—reduce accuracy. Some wording is repetitive, particularly repeated uses of “problems” and “cause.” Build precision by choosing natural collocations and varying key terms; for example, describe the effects as “serious health consequences” and the public impact as “second-hand smoke exposure.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including the contrast in “Smoking not only cause problems … but also cause problems,” and the conditional idea “if this is banned they will naturally try to hide.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “Smoking … cause” should use a singular verb, while “These diseases doesn't … it also happen” has mismatched agreement and an unclear structure. “Smoking should banned” is missing “be,” and “there in infant” does not form a correct clause. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and complete verb phrases, then revise longer sentences so each clause has a clear subject and verb. More accurate complex sentences would improve control.
