Student answer (Band 5.5)

Cigarette and other stuffs are the one which can cause multiple life - threatening disease and government have to announced that these things are illegitimate to produced. I strongly agree on this statement.

First of all, smoking is not the things which recommended by doctor a well because it cause many mental as well as sociological illness. Cigarette destroyed ones social life. It is not good for our as well as others health. Smoking brand's are writing warning on their product's packet which is smoking is dangerous for life. Any one who is taking cigarette or any other stuff, he is already put his or his family members life on line. Not only cigarette but there is other things as well like drugs, alcohol, other pan masala's which is only look right in advertisement but in real life that is not the case. sometime people spread rumors and i also listen some rumors that if i don't take cigarette with tea then i don't get pressure.

There are some rules and regulations which have to set on this smoking and other things. Government have to banned this kind of stuff but only things done by public organization is not right things but we public also have to support over politician and public leaders. If we citizens are not gives our efforts than this is not working by only authority. We also have to step forward and put our effort to stop taking this cigarette and other things as well as we have to motivate our other people to not doing this smoking. people have to realize this things that if it is take too long then there is no turning back afterward.

Overall, Smoking is the one we have to stop doing and we have to save our and others life. If we save one people then that person save other people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear in the opening and conclusion: you strongly agree that smoking should be stopped, and you give relevant reasons about harm to health, family members and society. You also recognise that government action needs public support. However, the response only partly addresses the specific proposal to make smoking illegal. Much of the discussion shifts to drugs, alcohol and pan masala, and the claim that smoking causes “mental as well as sociological illness” is not explained or supported. The tea-and-cigarette rumour is also unclear and does not strengthen the argument. To develop the response further, explain why prohibition would be effective or consider a relevant consequence or limitation, then support each main point with a clear example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Phrases such as “First of all,” “There are some rules and regulations” and “Overall” help signal stages in the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven. The first body paragraph moves from health effects to warning labels, family risk, other substances and a personal rumour without clearly connecting these points. The second paragraph repeats the call to stop smoking and shifts between government, citizens and motivation. Some references, such as “these things” and “this kind of stuff,” are vague, while repeated use of “and” makes connections mechanical. Group related ideas together and use clearer topic sentences and links that show cause, contrast or consequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “life-threatening disease,” “warning,” “government,” “rules and regulations” and “public organization.” This gives the reader a basic sense of the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making meaning difficult to follow. For example, “illegitimate to produced” does not clearly express a legal ban, “social life” is used imprecisely for the effects of smoking, and “put ... life on line” is not the natural expression. Repeated general terms such as “things,” “stuff” and “people” also reduce precision. Build a more specific vocabulary for health risks, legislation and prevention, and check word forms and spelling, including “cigarettes” and “rumours.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including conditional and reason clauses, as in “If we citizens are not gives our efforts...” and “if it is take too long then there is no turning back.” These attempts show an effort to express relationships between ideas, but the range is limited and complex sentences are often faulty. Errors in verb forms and agreement occur throughout: “government have to announced,” “it cause,” and “people ... are not gives.” Articles, plurals and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “Cigarette destroyed ones social life.” These patterns sometimes make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and verb forms first, then build longer sentences from correctly formed clauses and review punctuation.
