Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that smoking can cause serious illness and should be made illegal. Many individuals think that is true and I strongly agree with this view of point. This essay will explain my position by discussing two major threats about that problem.
The primary reason I agree is that health issues. This is because many people does smoking on regular basis it may damage their health and also cause of different disease like cancer. For example, if individuals try to protect their self from smoking it shall be benefit for them because they do not interested in smoking that may save their life from cancer. As the result they live a happy life with their families and enjoy themselves.
Another compelling argument is that stress.Several people are victim of smoking and addicted with this bad habit. This is because when they try to step back from this activity they suffered form many dangerous diseases. For instance, If people continously smoked and they have to ask withdraw with this activity they did not able to move because they have habit of smoking. As the result they feel stressful and some time does unbelievable things which we cannot image. Therefore, if they try to protect form such activity they feel fresh and more comfortable.
To sum up smoking can cause of serious illnesses and should be made illegal because there are many benefits to stay away from smoking like they can enjoy happy life with their families by avoiding the smoking, because it cause serious diseases and they are also feel stress free, fresh and friendly. Considering, these point I strongly believe that these point is more practical and beneficial.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear in the introduction and conclusion: you strongly agree that smoking should be illegal. You also give two relevant areas—illness and stress or addiction—and include examples. However, the response only partially develops the central question of making smoking illegal. Most of the discussion explains why smoking is harmful or why people may struggle to stop, rather than explaining why prohibition is the best response or considering its implications. The example about withdrawal is also unclear and does not fully support the claim that smoking should be banned. To strengthen the response, explain how a legal ban could reduce harm and address a relevant counterargument, such as personal choice or enforcement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each body paragraph focuses on a separate point, and signposts such as “The primary reason,” “Another compelling argument,” and “To sum up” help readers follow the direction. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to track because explanations and examples do not connect clearly. For instance, the second body paragraph moves from addiction to withdrawal, then to being unable to move and doing “unbelievable things.” Some linking phrases, including “As the result,” are also used mechanically. Make each paragraph follow a clearer sequence—claim, explanation, specific example, and link back to the question—and use referencing that makes the relationships between ideas explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a limited but relevant set of topic vocabulary, including “serious illnesses,” “cancer,” “addicted,” and “stressful,” so the general subject is understandable. There are also attempts to use more formal expressions, such as “compelling argument.” However, noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors sometimes make the meaning difficult to interpret. Phrases such as “victim of smoking,” “ask withdraw with this activity,” and “protect form such activity” are not natural or precise in this context; “continously” and “image” also appear to be misspellings. Build accuracy by learning common collocations for health and addiction, and choose precise terms such as “withdrawal symptoms” rather than assembling phrases word by word.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures with reasons and examples, including clauses beginning “This is because” and “if.” This shows some effort to vary sentence forms. However, the range remains limited, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty. Examples include “many people does smoking,” “they do not interested in smoking,” and “they suffered form many dangerous diseases,” which contain problems with agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction. Articles and punctuation also need attention: the opening runs “illegal. Many” together, and “Another compelling argument is that stress” is not formed as a complete, natural sentence. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, then check each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb before adding clauses.
