Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern era, people think that smoking can cause serious issues, and they also admire that it should be recognize illegal by the government. I am fully agree with that statement. In coming paragraphs, I'll give reasons for that and also will explain any example from my own knowledge.

To begin with, smoking has two types of cons for us, first one is that it is totally wastage of money. If people save their money of smoking for some other good purposses, they can make their life successful. The second drawback is that it is not good for our health. Smoking directly damage our lungs, who are the most important thing for our breating. Now, some old smokers are suffering from lungs and breath problems. Now they say that smoking was big mistake in their life. Even, they advise to new generation to avoid from this type of habits.

Furthermore, some people think that it should be banned by the government, and should not allowed to sale in local market. They are saying that, if anybody break the rule of the country, will be panalized by the government.

According to my knowledge, if citizens start to avoid smoking, it will be very good sign of development. Or if the rulers made it illegal for sale in market, will be good approach, because if our new generation avoid to this, they will get lot of benifits in the shape of weath and health.

To put it in a nutshell, I pen down saying that, smoking can cause some bad illnesses, like lungs problem, this is common problem in smokes, but it is not good for our healthy life, because it make difficulties in our breathing. It also should be banned by the government to sale in shops.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: “I am fully agree with that statement,” and you return to the view that smoking should be prohibited in the conclusion. You address both the health risks and government action, with relevant points about lung and breathing problems and the effect on younger generations. However, the argument is not developed evenly. The claim that smoking wastes money is asserted rather than explained, and the paragraph about penalties does not clarify how making smoking illegal would work or address possible objections. Extend each main point with a specific explanation or example, and distinguish more clearly between banning smoking itself and banning its sale.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two main discussion paragraphs, a further paragraph on the writer’s view, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “To put it in a nutshell” help signal the stages of the argument. However, some links feel mechanical, and the progression between ideas is not always clear. For example, the paragraph beginning “Furthermore” reports what “some people think,” although the essay’s own position is already stated, and the next paragraph repeats a similar point about government action. Group related arguments together, use clearer references to connect each paragraph, and avoid repeating the same conclusion in slightly different terms.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “serious illnesses,” “lungs,” “breath problems,” “banned,” and “penalized.” There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “According to my knowledge” and “in the shape of.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “admire that it should be recognize illegal,” “wastage of money,” and “avoid from this type of habits” are difficult or awkward formulations. Spelling errors such as “purposses,” “breating,” and “benifits” also reduce control. Build a more reliable range of collocations for health and legislation, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example, “If people save their money … they can make their life successful.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but there are some recurring errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “I am fully agree,” “smoking directly damage,” and “it should not allowed to sale.” The conditional sentence “if anybody break the rule … will be panalized” also lacks a clear subject in its second clause. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and make sure each clause has a complete subject and verb. More controlled complex sentences would improve clarity without sacrificing range.
