Student answer (Band 5.5)

Smoking can cause various problems in the form of deadly diseases like cancer and also it should be banned in every country due to its harmful effects.

I firmly agree with writing this notion and i will illustrate speaking it with the assistance of logical reasoning in the forthcoming paragraph.

To commence with, ther are much more problems is spreading in now a days. The most harmful thing which is effecting almost all the individual that is smoking. Smoking not only harmful and dangerous for us but also for other people in sorrounding it also damage our internal organs like heart and liver. The demand of smoking in adults incraesing gradually and it also damage our environment made it polluted. To explain with, the university of greenwhich investigated that there would be the addiction of smoking increasing rapidly according to the demand. Resultantly we are becoming the slave of these harmful habits.

To contrast, there is also some crucial factor to improve like if the higher authorities banned these type of drugs in country we can get the control of it. I strongly believe that if the government should take the responsibility of these addictions. there is also another way to get rid from this by giving awareness to public about these deadly things and also informed every person not to get involved in these things.

To conclude with, from my perspective that the drugs should be made illegal. If these things should be banned than our environment would be neat and clean.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that smoking should be illegal, and you give relevant reasons, including illness, harm to people nearby, environmental pollution, and government action. However, the response only partially develops the task. The discussion shifts between smoking, “drugs,” and addiction without clearly explaining the case for making smoking illegal specifically. Several claims, such as the reference to a university investigation, are not explained or connected to evidence, and the proposed public-awareness approach is not compared with prohibition. Develop two or three relevant reasons with specific explanation or examples, and maintain a precise focus on smoking throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, and signposts such as “To commence with” and “To conclude with” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear: the first body paragraph moves from health effects to adult demand, pollution, and an investigation without showing how these points connect. Some linking phrases are inaccurate or mechanical, particularly “To contrast,” where the next paragraph adds solutions rather than presenting a contrast. Improve the logical sequence by giving each paragraph one main purpose, using clear topic sentences, and linking each supporting detail directly to that purpose.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “deadly diseases,” “internal organs,” “addiction,” and “higher authorities,” so the reader can generally identify the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes meaning less clear. For example, “writing this notion” and “speaking it with the assistance of logical reasoning” are unnatural ways to state and support an opinion; “damage our environment made it polluted” is also awkward. Spelling errors such as “sorrounding,” “incraesing,” and “ther” further affect clarity. Aim for precise, natural phrases and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You try to use both simple and more complex forms, including conditional sentences such as “if the government should take the responsibility” and “if these things should be banned.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction can make the reader pause. For example, “there are much more problems is spreading” combines incompatible structures, while “Smoking not only harmful” is missing a verb. The conditional sentences also need clearer, consistent forms. Practise building accurate basic sentences first, then add subordinate clauses; check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation when editing.
