Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You take a clear position that smoking should be restricted, and you give relevant reasons: the risk of lung disease and cancer, alongside the employment and economic effects of cigarette production. The suggestion to help workers move into other sectors also shows an attempt to address the consequences of a ban. However, the response does not fully develop the question of whether smoking itself should be illegal, and the suggestion that addicted people may smoke once or twice daily in a designated zone weakens the position. The economic point and proposed policies need explanation or an example. The response is 45 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop these ideas and address the task fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure: it introduces your view, presents health concerns, and then considers the economic impact. The contrast marker “Conversely” helps signal the shift to the opposing consideration, and the ideas are generally relevant to the paragraphs in which they appear. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. For example, the move from cancer treatment to allowing addicted people to smoke in a zone is abrupt, and the final paragraph moves quickly from jobs to tax and licensing policies without showing how these steps would work. Some linking is mechanical, and the response ends without a concluding summary. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each supporting point explicitly to your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “severe medical problems,” “addicted,” “market share,” “production,” and “sales tax.” These choices show an attempt to discuss both public health and economic consequences. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make parts of the response less clear, such as “seriously hazardieous,” “indulge in cancer,” and “high license fees.” Repetition of “cigrattes” and “society” also reduces precision. Aim to use accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; for instance, describe people as developing cancer, and refer to cigarette manufacturers or the tobacco industry. More precise vocabulary would help express your ideas without changing their meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a conditional structure in “if it is reported in early stages then it can be treated.” However, complex sentences are often difficult to follow because of errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “Smoking damage the lungs,” “it should not be allow,” and “Million of people are working.” The sentence beginning “Those person who are addicted” is also incomplete in its construction and does not clearly connect its clauses. Punctuation and spacing around sentence boundaries are inconsistent. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “because,” “although,” and “if.”
