Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the question and state a position—“I partially agree”—then discuss health harms alongside the possible economic effects of prohibition. The health argument is relevant, with references to lung cancer and damage to organs, and you acknowledge the counterargument that cigarette taxes contribute to government revenue. However, the extent of your agreement is not explained clearly: it is difficult to tell whether you support making smoking illegal or merely reducing it. Several points, such as the effect on the economy and the claim that smoking relieves stress, are asserted rather than supported with specific reasoning or examples. Develop your position consistently and explain why the health benefits do or do not outweigh the financial costs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

Your response has an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the paragraphs broadly group health concerns and the effects of a ban. You also use signposts such as “However” and “To Conclude.” Nevertheless, the overall progression is not always clear: the introduction moves quickly from illness to the economy, and the conclusion repeats both sides without resolving your position. Some sentences contain several connected claims, making relationships between ideas hard to follow. For example, the discussion of cigarette taxes and national development would be clearer if separated and linked explicitly to the argument. Use a clearer sequence—position, supporting reasons, counterargument and response—and make each paragraph focus on one main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “lungs cancer,” “addicted,” “stress,” “tax” and “economy,” so the reader can identify the main subject and arguments. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, sometimes making meaning less clear. Phrases such as “smoking is injuries to health,” “financial economy,” and “trap in circle” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “dieases,” “continuosly” and “cigaretts.” Build a more precise set of expressions for health effects, addiction and public revenue, and check spelling and collocations when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example, “some people think smoking cigarettes help them to reduce stress.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors can make the reader work to understand the message. Examples include “There is serious and major dieases which causes,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “many big problem in person body begins,” which has problems with number and sentence structure. Articles, verb forms and punctuation also need attention; several sentences run together, and sentence openings such as “also” are not consistently capitalised. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check each sentence's punctuation.
