Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, smoking can cause serious illnesses and should be made illegal. I am agree with this statement because it is harmful for health.
Smoking can cause serious illnesses and should be made illegal because it is very harmful for health. every age of person use smoking because it is easy to available in shops because government take no action. So the shopkeepers don't check identity of persons. and give them easily so every small age child also started to take smoking and face many health related problems like cancer, kidney effect, lungs, brain and they are addicted etc. For example, In parents use smoking everyday so they are not able to concieve babies and the birth of baby is not normal they face many problems like sometime children are handicap, and other problems.
Moreover, people have no money to buy smoking and they started robbery because it is addicted to take drugs like different types of smoking and they have no money to buy all of these so it is very dangerous. Every person to take smoking have many money related issues they have no source of income and not doing any job so there are only one option to take somebody money they started robbery, murders because they need money to buy sigrete. For example, In the article of news china mentioned in headlines they bann smoking and not allow to give any other drug less than 18 of age.
In conclusion, There are many harmful effects of this. People only take because of taste but they not have any idea how harmful for this. Cancer is very normal at that time because smoking is the main reason it effects directly lungs, kidney, and heart. So people are died in silent heart attacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You state a clear position in the opening—“I am agree with this statement”—and maintain agreement in the conclusion. The response gives relevant reasons, including health risks and young people’s access to cigarettes, and attempts to support them with examples. However, the task is only partly addressed: the central claim that smoking should be made illegal is not examined in depth, and there is little discussion of how prohibition might work or what its consequences could be. The claims linking smoking to robbery, murder, infertility and birth defects are asserted rather than explained or supported, so the argument remains limited and under-developed. Develop fewer points with clearer reasoning and more credible examples, while directly explaining why a legal ban is preferable to other measures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the paragraphs broadly group health effects and social consequences. This gives the reader some organisation. However, there is no clear progression from the reasons to the specific case for making smoking illegal, and several ideas are joined in long, confusing sequences. For example, the second body paragraph moves from addiction to lack of income, robbery and murder without clearly showing how each point connects. Linking words such as “because,” “so” and “Moreover” are repeated or used mechanically, while sentence-initial “and” also weakens the flow. Use one main idea per paragraph, explain the link between each supporting point and your position, and use clear referencing and transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “serious illnesses,” “addicted,” “cancer” and “income,” so the general subject is understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “harmful for health,” “smoking” and “many problems.” Some inaccurate or unclear choices make meaning difficult to follow, such as “kidney effect,” “take smoking,” “people are died” and “silent heart attacks.” Spelling errors such as “sigrete,” “bann” and “concieve” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of expressions for health effects, addiction and legislation, and check spelling and natural word combinations. This would help you express your ideas more clearly and avoid relying on repeated basic wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with reasons, using forms such as “because” and “so.” However, the range is limited, and attempts to combine several clauses often produce faulty or difficult-to-follow sentences. Errors include “I am agree,” “every age of person use,” “the shopkeepers don't check … and give them,” and “people are died.” Articles, agreement, verb forms and sentence boundaries are frequently inaccurate; capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent. These errors sometimes make the relationships between ideas unclear. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add one subordinate clause at a time. Pay particular attention to subject–verb agreement, verb patterns and separating complete sentences with appropriate punctuation.
