Student answer (Band 6.0)
Smoking can cause serious illnesses such as cancer or heart problems but in my opinion it should not be made illegal.
It is mendatory in most countries to print the hazard or a disclaimer on the packages of things that people use for smoking such as cigerate. For example, cigerates made in Pakistan has disclaimer that smoking can cause cancer or serious heart problems with a graphic picture depicting what problems a cancer can cause to a person who smokes. Such disclaimers make it impossible to forget or not know the risks a person takes when he buys anything related to smoking so almost every smoker do know the risks that comes with smoking. If we make it illegal just because it poses serious health risk is not going to stop a smoker addicted to smoking and can even lead them to duldge into more illegal things even just for a puff. Some people may invent alternatives and can promote things with tag lines such as safe alternative for smoking. If i remember correctly when vape was first intoduce, it was advertise as safe altervative for smoking cigerate but new studies comes out each year telling us how vape can affect health in negative ways.
However, I do belive that instead of making it illegal to smoke we can impliment restriction on things that make smoking dangerious. For example, we can find a way to make filters that can clean hazardious chemicals so that a person addicting to smoking will have less affect on health. We can also put limit on the amount of nicotine used in smoking products so less people get addicted to smoking.
In conclusion, Making smoking illegal might lead smokers to take more dangerious life choices so instead we should work on making or restricting things that can cause most problem to the smokers health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the opening: although smoking causes serious illness, you disagree that it should be illegal. You address the question with relevant reasons, including warning labels, the possibility of an illicit market, and restrictions on nicotine. The example of cigarette warnings in Pakistan and the discussion of vaping help make the argument concrete. This meets the task well, but the ideas are not equally developed: the claim that prohibition could push smokers towards “more illegal things” is asserted rather than explained, and the proposed filters are not supported with evidence or a clear account of how they would work. Develop these points and acknowledge a counterargument, such as the public-health benefits of prohibition, to make the reasoning more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs present reasons and alternatives, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. The progression within the first body paragraph is less controlled, however: it moves from warning labels to addiction, illegal activity, and vaping, so the central point becomes crowded. Some references are also unclear, as in “things that make smoking dangerous” and “most problem,” where the reader has to infer the intended meaning. Give each paragraph a more focused purpose and use clearer links between claims and examples; this would make the organisation more consistently smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “serious illnesses,” “disclaimer,” “addicted,” “alternatives,” and “nicotine,” and you attempt more specific expressions such as “graphic picture” and “safe alternative.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “mendatory,” “cigerate,” “duldge,” and “dangerious” are examples. Some combinations are also unnatural, including “less affect on health” and “things related to smoking.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, such as “reduce the health effects” and “tobacco products.” The range is sufficient to communicate your argument, but greater precision and control of these choices are needed for a stronger performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional reasoning (“If we make it illegal…”) and a relative clause (“what problems a cancer can cause”). Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “almost every smoker do know” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “new studies comes out” also needs agreement. In “when vape was first introduce,” the verb form is incorrect, and “a person addicting to smoking” does not form a complete, accurate grammatical phrase. There are also some sentence-boundary and punctuation issues, particularly in the long first body paragraph. Review agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
