Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree that smoking should be illegal, and you give relevant reasons, including addiction, social influence, and serious health consequences. The examples of cancer, heart disease, and harm to young people help address the topic. However, some parts are more fully addressed than others. The response focuses mainly on why smoking is harmful, while the case for making it illegal is less developed: for example, you do not explain how a ban could work or consider possible objections such as personal choice or enforcement. The claim that smoking is a leading cause of death among young adults in western countries also needs explanation or support. Develop these points to make your argument more complete and convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an overall structure, moving from your position to reasons and then a concluding recommendation. The ideas about social influence and health effects are grouped into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the main argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the opening paragraph lists several forms of smoking, but this point is not connected to the later argument. Linking is also occasionally mechanical or imprecise, as in “However peope are aware…” where the contrast is not clearly established. The final paragraph combines a ban, age restrictions, new laws, and a claim about young adults without showing how these points relate. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each supporting point explicitly to your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “addicted,” “negative impact,” “cancer,” and “oral hygiene,” and the range is sufficient to communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “new laws and regulations” and “betterment of the society.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations are noticeable, including “tradionatiol,” “soceity,” “enourmous health issue,” and “people fascinate other people smoking.” These sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; for instance, describe people as being “influenced by their peers” rather than using “company” in this context. More precise vocabulary would make the argument clearer and more formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “Although” and a relative clause in “people who lost their lives to smoking.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries recur. Examples include “Smoking have” instead of “Smoking has,” “people… chose to smoke” instead of “choose,” and the run-on opening sentence, which joins several ideas without clear punctuation. The final sentence also lacks clear grammatical links between its recommendations and supporting claims. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb tense, and divide long sentences into shorter, complete units. Greater control of these patterns would make your ideas easier to follow.
