Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is proved that smoking can cause differnt diseases in a human body and many people believe that smoking should be banned.
I completely support this idea that smoking should be made illegal because of smoking not only make smoker sick but also effects other people sitting beside smoker. Another reason is due to its harmfull effects on environment.
The primary reason why smoking should be banned is beacuse of its serious effects on all the people weather they are smokers or not. Scientists believed that passive smoking is even more dangerous for health. Smoker inhale ciggrate smoke through filter making it less dangerous while people sitting beside smoker coming from the burning end of ciggratte while is even more harmfull containing a lot of cancerous elements. For example in 1995 a journal published the same findings that passive smoking is even more dangerous.
On the other hand if we talk about harmful effects of smoking on environment then it must be banned . This is due to the the fact that a lot of resources are being used for the manufacturing of ciggrattes. Used ciggrattes and their filters are damaging our environment as they are made up of harmfull chamicals that are non biodegradable. Because of these reason smoking should be made illegal. For example, In 2000 a research was conducted in japan on smoking buds and findings were alarming. It was found that most of blocked pipes are due to these used ciggrates.
In conclusion, Smoking is not good for even one purson. This habit is destroying human health as well as our beautiful enviroments. So it is our moral duty to get rid of this habit and make it illegal in each and every part of country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely support making smoking illegal, and the conclusion returns to this view. You address two relevant reasons—harm to people through passive smoking and environmental damage—and include examples to support them. This covers the task well. However, the health argument is developed more fully than the environmental one: the claim about blocked pipes does not clearly explain the wider environmental impact, and the examples are asserted rather than explained or connected to reliable evidence. To strengthen the response, develop each reason with a clearer chain of explanation and show how it supports a legal ban, while also considering briefly whether regulation could be an alternative.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “The primary reason,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the progression. The main ideas are generally grouped appropriately. Some connections, however, are mechanical or unclear: “On the other hand” suggests a contrast, although the environmental point supports the same position, and “while” in the passive-smoking explanation makes the comparison difficult to follow. The examples also feel inserted rather than fully linked to the claims. Use transitions that show addition or a second reason, and make references between claims and examples more explicit to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “passive smoking,” “cancerous elements,” “manufacturing,” and “non biodegradable,” which helps communicate the main points. There is some attempt to use more specific language, but the range and control are uneven. Repeated use of “harmful,” “smoking,” and “smoker” makes parts of the response repetitive, while several spelling errors—such as “differnt,” “ciggratte,” “chamicals,” and “enviroments”—are noticeable. Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, including “smoking buds” and “one purson.” Build a wider set of accurate topic collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make the argument clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a relative clause in “filters that are made up of…”. The overall meaning is usually understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences. For example, “smoking should be banned is because of” creates an awkward clause structure, and “people sitting beside smoker coming from the burning end” lacks a clear grammatical relationship between the people and the smoke. There are also agreement and article errors, as in “smoking…make smoker sick” and “beside smoker.” Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, and simplify sentences when needed so that complex ideas remain clear.
