Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you state that you “strongly agree” and return to this view in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, including illness, pressure on public healthcare, harm to non-smokers and children, and personal financial costs. However, these points are mostly asserted rather than explained or supported with a specific example, and the argument does not fully explore whether making smoking illegal is practical or how a ban would work. The response therefore addresses the task only partially, with ideas that remain limited and under-developed. It is also 41 words below the required minimum, which restricts the space available to develop your reasons. Add a concrete example and explain the link between each reason and your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from health effects to financial consequences is logical, and signposts such as “first of all,” “another major concern,” and “in conclusion” help readers follow the main points. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “there are several way smoking should be made illegal” does not clearly introduce the reasons that follow, while “if people can elimination sigaratte” makes the relationship between the proposed action and its result difficult to follow. Improve cohesion by using clear topic sentences and linking each explanation directly to the claim it supports. Check that pronouns and references clearly identify who or what you mean.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “public health concerns,” “medical treatment,” “public healthcare systems,” and “public awareness campaign.” These choices show an effort to discuss health and social consequences rather than relying only on basic terms. However, the range is limited, and frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word forms make several ideas difficult to understand, as in “serias illness,” “dengeraus,” “financial burder,” and “educational programmers.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “manage there daily expose.” Build accuracy by learning common topic collocations and checking spelling and word forms carefully. More precise expressions for the effects of smoking and the costs of a ban would also help you explain your position.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use some simple sentences and attempt to connect ideas with clauses, for example, “because it poses significant risks” and “when theyb are try to cigarate smoke.” However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors in sentence formation and verb forms often make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “its can lead,” “this is beacuse at risk,” and “government should be take effective measures.” There are also problems with articles, agreement, and punctuation, including the run-on opening sentence and inconsistent sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses. Proofread for complete sentences and consistent punctuation so that your ideas are easier to understand.
