Student answer (Band 6.0)
The figures illustrates the amount of first time visitors and returning visitors who visited Caryl Island from 2000 to 2008.
Overall, it is clear that the total amount of visitors increased from 2000 to 2008. Additional both of them rised constanly between 2002 and 2006.
With regard to the first two years first time visitors recorded a higher amount with 8000 visitors than returning visitors who reached 3000. However over the next two years until 2002 first time visitors recorded a decline to 4000 visitors while the amount of returning visitors increased and stoot at 10000, so both lines crossed each other in 2001 at roughly 6000.
While the amount of first time visitors constatly increased from 2002 to 2008 and reached 12000 visitors in 2008, the amount of returning visitors peaked in 2006 at around 15000 visitors and then recorded a slightly decline and stood just under 14000 visitors in 2008.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the two visitor groups and give a relevant overview: overall growth, a rise in returning visitors to a peak, and a subsequent decline. Most reported figures match the graph, including the starting values and the 2008 levels. However, the overview is imprecise: total visitors did not simply increase throughout, and the claim that both groups rose constantly from 2002 to 2006 overlooks that first-time visitors fell before 2002. The crossing in 2001 is a reasonable inference, but it is not one of the labelled years. The response is 137 words, below the required 150, so the trends and comparisons are not developed as fully as they could be. Add a clearer overview and a little more accurate detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear four-paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about each visitor group. This gives the reader a generally coherent account, and contrast markers such as “However” and “While” help signal changes between the lines. Some connections are less clear or mechanically expressed, particularly “Additional both of them” in the overview, which makes the relationship between the two trends difficult to follow. The first detailed paragraph also combines several comparisons and the inferred 2001 crossing in one long sentence. Use more precise linking language and separate the key stages into shorter, logically focused sentences. This would make the progression smoother and the comparisons easier to track.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of trend vocabulary, including “decline,” “increased,” “peaked,” and “reached,” and the reader can understand the main comparisons. There are also attempts at more formal reporting language, such as “recorded” and “stood.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “the total amount of visitors,” “Additional both of them,” and “recorded a slightly decline.” Spelling errors such as “constanly,” “stoot,” and “constatly” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and control. Prefer standard chart language such as “the total number of visitors,” “both figures rose,” and “declined slightly,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including contrast clauses with “However” and “While,” and most of the intended meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors are present, especially in agreement and sentence construction. For example, “The figures illustrates” has a plural subject with a singular verb, while “Additional both of them rised” is not a well-formed sentence. In “the amount of returning visitors increased and stoot at 10000,” the coordinated verbs need consistent, correct forms. The long sentence about the crossing also makes the relationships between clauses harder to control. Build accuracy by checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and divide complex comparisons into shorter sentences while retaining a range of structures.
