Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You report the main movements and include several relevant figures: first-time visitors fall from 8,000 to 4,000 before rising, while returning visitors reach a peak and then decline. However, the overview is not fully accurate: returning visitors did not rise throughout the period, as they fell from about 15,200 in 2006 to 13,400 in 2008. There is also a key date error: the response says returning visitors numbered 3,000 in 2002, then rose to 10,000 “in 2002”; the 3,000 figure belongs to 2000, and the rise occurred by 2002. The response is 140 words, below the required 150. Add a clearer overview and check dates and comparisons against the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic, useful structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two visitor groups. This makes the main subject easy to follow. However, progression is weakened by the repeated and confusing date in “In 2002, it sharply inclined to 10000 in 2002,” and the returning-visitors paragraph begins with 2002 before correcting the timeline. Linking words such as “Overall,” “Then,” and “However” help signal relationships, but “But” is repeated and some transitions do not clarify the comparison. Organise each series chronologically, and use a final comparison to show how the groups relate by 2008. This would make the progression clearer and cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the general trends, including “decreased,” “increasing,” “sharply,” and “continuously rose.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing visitor numbers. “Population” usually refers to residents, not visitors, while “inclined” does not mean increased in this context. “Kept increasing” is understandable but less precise than language such as “rose steadily.” The phrase “it minorly decreased” is also awkward, and “first time visitors” would be clearer as “first-time visitors.” Aim for accurate, natural trend vocabulary rather than using less familiar words where they do not fit. This will improve precision while retaining the clear basic meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple sentences and clauses, for example, “The number of first time visitors was 6000, 9000 and 12000 in 2004, 2006 and 2008 respectively.” Most sentences convey their intended meaning, but errors and punctuation problems recur. The sentence “In 2002, it sharply inclined to 10000 in 2002” repeats the year and has an unclear structure; “that was comparatively less than that of first time visitors” also has an unclear reference. There are inconsistent commas and spacing, including “Then ,” and a missing full stop at the end. Use a wider range of accurately controlled sentence patterns, check pronoun references, and proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
