Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by identifying the main trends for both visitor types. However, the analysis is hampered by inaccurate data reporting (e.g., stating 15,000 to 13,000 for 2008 when the graph shows different figures). The overview is present but lacks clarity, and the inclusion of subjective commentary—such as 'the visitors enjoyed a lots'—is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report, which requires objective data description. To improve, focus on accurately transcribing the data points and ensuring the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than providing a chronological narrative of every year.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is repetitive and often mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'firstly', 'finally', and 'in conclusion'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between sentences is often abrupt. The lack of sophisticated linking words makes the text feel disjointed. To improve, use a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'subsequently', 'in contrast', 'meanwhile') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows logically into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'increase', 'decrease', and 'visitors'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the will came back to visit island' and 'Euroup country'. Some phrasing is non-standard, which occasionally makes the meaning difficult to follow. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'a significant rise', and ensure correct spelling of basic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('the first time visitor shows'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are largely simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors that impede clarity, such as 'the visitors enjoyed a lots in the first time and the came back to explore'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences and misused commas. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
