Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the trends for both visitor types. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. The inclusion of repetitive, nonsensical text at the end significantly detracts from the task completion, as it fails to provide a meaningful conclusion or summary. While the key data points are identified, the lack of precise comparison between the two categories throughout the period limits the depth of the response. To improve, ensure that all parts of the summary are relevant and avoid repetitive filler content, which undermines the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is disrupted by the repetitive text at the end. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'Moreover', but they are sometimes applied mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the trends. The final paragraph is incoherent due to the repetitive string of words, which severely impacts the overall structure and readability of the response. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that every sentence contributes to the logical progression of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. While terms like 'upward trend' and 'increased sharply' are appropriate for describing trends, there are errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'Fall' (should be 'fell') and 'flturated' (fluctuated). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. The repetition of the word 'the' at the end of the text is a significant error that negatively impacts the lexical quality. Expanding your vocabulary to include more varied verbs and nouns for describing data changes would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but grammatical errors are frequent. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the number of visitors... show upward trend'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. The final section of the text is grammatically nonsensical, which significantly lowers the score for accuracy. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for mechanical errors. Reducing the reliance on repetitive structures will also help demonstrate better control over grammatical range.
