Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some key data points from the graph, the summary is incomplete and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. You have listed specific figures for various years but failed to synthesize the information or make meaningful comparisons between the two categories of visitors. To improve, ensure you provide a clear introductory statement, a distinct overview paragraph highlighting the main trends, and ensure the response meets the minimum length requirement to allow for full development of the data.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas together; the text relies on simple, repetitive sentence structures. While there is a basic chronological order, the absence of transition words (such as 'meanwhile', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently') makes the writing feel mechanical and disjointed. To improve, use paragraphing to separate your introduction, overview, and body paragraphs, and incorporate a wider range of linking words to guide the reader through your analysis.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, often using the same phrases like 'visited caryl' and 'first time' repeatedly. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'return tourist' instead of 'returning visitors' and 'discrease' (a misspelling of 'decrease'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to use synonyms and more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a downward trend'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('The line graph display', 'return visitors is reached') and incorrect verb tenses. Sentence structures are predominantly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing full stops and capitalization errors (e.g., 'caryl'). These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the information provided. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring consistent verb tenses when describing past data, and proofreading for basic punctuation and capitalization.
