Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for both first-time and returning visitors. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the description of the data for 2004 and 2006 is confusing and contains inaccuracies regarding the figures provided. While the overall trend is identified, the lack of clarity in reporting specific data points prevents a higher score. The overview is present but could be more clearly articulated to highlight the key differences between the two categories over the period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the flow of ideas is often disjointed due to the misuse of cohesive devices and awkward phrasing. Phrases like 'furthermore' and 'in addition' are used, but the logical progression between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and unclear references. The structure is functional, but the lack of smooth transitions and the repetitive nature of the sentence construction make the text difficult to follow at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. The student relies on basic terms such as 'increased', 'decreased', and 'number of'. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'roll down' instead of 'decline' or 'downward trend', and 'enhance start' instead of 'growth began'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the report. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary related to data trends and avoiding informal or non-standard phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the first time visitor is less'), tense usage (e.g., 'it will be declined'), and article usage. Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors that obscure the intended meaning. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. Significant improvement in basic sentence construction and proofreading is required.
