Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the overall trends for both visitor types. You successfully identified the starting and ending points and noted the intersection. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting; for example, you mention the number of returning visitors increased to 10,000 in 2002, but then repeat '3,000 in 2000' unnecessarily. Additionally, the description of the first-time visitors in 2000 is confusing, as you state they were higher than returning visitors but then mention a drop to 4,000 in the same year, which is not clearly supported by the graph. To improve, ensure your data points are accurate and clearly linked to the years provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'Generally', 'However', and 'Furthermore' to connect ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by repetitive phrasing and some awkward sentence structures, such as the repetition of data points in the third paragraph. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when discussing the first-time visitors. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence flows naturally into the next without repeating information unnecessarily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the trends, such as 'significantly increased', 'declined', and 'increased steadily'. However, there are some errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'the most received' and 'those who are came back'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and ensure your verb forms are consistent. Avoid repeating the same words in close proximity, as this makes the writing feel less sophisticated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'those who are came back', 'the the highest', and 'Many first time visitors in 2000 visited the island compared with returning visitors'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after periods and commas. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and proofread your work to catch minor slips in grammar and punctuation.
