Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all requirements of the task. You have successfully identified the main trends and provided data points to support your descriptions. The overview clearly highlights the contrasting trends between the two visitor types. However, some of the data reporting is slightly imprecise, such as stating 'returning visitors have increased sharply in between 2000 to 2002 at 2500 to 10000 people' which is a bit clunky. To reach a higher band, ensure that the data points are integrated more smoothly into the narrative and that the comparisons are more explicitly linked to the overall trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'In contrast', 'Meanwhile', and 'Although', which help the flow of information. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'in that period around 2004 returning visitors have little stable'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear focus will help improve the overall cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'skyrocketed', 'surged', and 'outnumbered' effectively. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'returning visitors have little stable' (should be 'remained relatively stable') and 'first-time visitors were highest one' (should be 'the highest'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses (e.g., 'The line graph illustrate' instead of 'illustrates') and subject-verb agreement. There are also issues with prepositions and articles, such as 'fell at 4000 in 2002' and 'after a 2004'. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Pay closer attention to proofreading your work for basic tense consistency and article usage.
