Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main trends and provides data points for both categories. However, the report is under the 150-word minimum, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the analysis. While the overview is present, the lack of sufficient length means the comparison is somewhat brief. To improve, ensure you provide a more detailed breakdown of the data, perhaps by grouping years or highlighting specific intersections more thoroughly to meet the word count requirement and provide a more comprehensive summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'conversely', 'on the other hand', and 'after which' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The overall structure is clear, but the limited length prevents a more sophisticated development of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with terms like 'surged sharply', 'considerable decline', and 'recorded another peak' showing a reasonable range. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'returning visitors was popular' (should be 'were popular') and 'started their figure to 8000' (should be 'started at a figure of 8000'). These errors do not impede communication, but more precise collocations would elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('returning visitors was popular') and awkward phrasing ('started their figure to 8000'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure could be more varied. While the errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the data, they occur frequently enough to limit the score to a 6.0.
