Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers the main features of the graph well, identifying key trends for both visitor categories. The overview is clear and highlights the contrasting patterns between the two groups. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, the text mentions 'less than 3000' returning visitors in 2008, whereas the graph shows a higher figure. Additionally, the description of the returning visitors' trend is slightly confusing, as the text refers to them as 'people leaving the Caryl Island', which misinterprets the data labels. Despite these minor inaccuracies, the main trends are successfully identified and compared.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Subsequently' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The progression of information is generally clear, moving from the first-time visitors to the returning visitors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct data sets, which helps the reader follow the analysis. Overall, the structure is sound and supports the development of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts to use descriptive language like 'fluctuated', 'downward trend', and 'marginal decline'. However, there are some awkward word choices, such as 'the populate' (instead of 'the population' or 'the number of people') and 'returning from Caryl Island' (which implies they are leaving, rather than visiting). These inaccuracies do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the report. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise nouns and collocations related to data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the amount of people' (should be 'the number of people'), 'the figure of visitors... fluctuated' (should be 'the number of visitors'), and 'the 8 years of time period' (redundant). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some unnecessary commas, such as in 'it is evident that, the figure'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve the accuracy.
