Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by describing the line graph, but it lacks a clear structure and does not fully summarize or make effective comparisons between the two types of visitors. Important trends are mentioned, but they are not explained in sufficient detail. For instance, the mention of the lowest number of new visitors in 2002 and the peak of returning visitors in 2006 are present, but the overall trends could have been more clearly connected. This affects the overall clarity of the task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The coherence and cohesion of the response are somewhat lacking. The ideas are presented, but the transitions between sentences are not fluent; for example, ‘However, the number of returning visitors rose up to 10000 and on the other hand...’ disrupts the flow. There are instances where linking words could have improved the progression of ideas; for instance, the beginning of the conclusion can be linked better to preceding points for smoother flow. Overall, more structured and connected sentences would enhance clarity and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The lexical resource is somewhat adequate, but there are areas for improvement. Words such as "way lifted" and "depicts slight fall" show awkward usage. More precise and academically appropriate language would enhance this aspect. For example, instead of "way lifted," the term "significantly increased" would be more suitable. The use of repetition in "figures of new visitors" throughout could be varied to improve lexical variety in the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are several grammatical issues that hinder full communication of the ideas. Minor errors include the use of lowercase for 'Caryl Island' and improper sentence structures like "highest figure of returning visitors are stated in a chart." Additionally, phrases such as "re-visitors" should be more formally referred to as "returning visitors". Sentence fragments, such as starting with "However," leave incomplete ideas, and could confuse the reader about the intended message. Overall, improvement in grammatical accuracy and sentence structure is needed.
Overall feedback
You have made a commendable effort in responding to the task, covering some necessary points about visitor trends at Caryl Island. However, enhancing the overall structure will greatly improve clarity. Make sure to systematically break down the information presented in the graph into distinct parts and connect ideas with appropriate linking phrases. Additionally, pay attention to vocabulary precision and grammatical accuracy to strengthen your academic tone. Aim to replace awkward phrases with more formal constructions and ensure your sentences convey complete ideas clearly. These will help elevate your score significantly.
