Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified the main trends, the analysis is underdeveloped. You mention the start and end points but fail to provide a comprehensive overview of the data points in between, particularly the specific fluctuations. The summary is too brief to fully cover the requirements of the task. To improve, ensure you provide a more detailed breakdown of the data, including key years and comparative figures, to ensure the response is sufficiently developed and meets the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Phrases like 'On the other hand' and 'In contrast' are used, but the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'people those visited Island', which makes the progression of ideas feel slightly repetitive. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother narrative flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'visitor who visited... first time' and 'raised to around'. The repetition of 'visitor' and 'visited' suggests a limited range of synonyms. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure you use the correct plural forms and collocations consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'people those visited Island' (incorrect relative pronoun), 'whom visited Island' (incorrect pronoun usage), and 'at the start of period' (missing article). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and pluralization. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic articles, prepositions, and correct pronoun usage.
