The line graph shows the number of first time visitors and returning visitors who visited Caryl Island from 2000 to 2008.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph shows the number of first time visitors and returning visitors who visited Caryl Island from 2000 to 2008.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The line graph depicts the distributions of first time visitors and returning visitors who came to visit Caryl Island between 2000 and 2008.

Overall, the first time visitors experienced a fall, before gradually rising until the end of the time period. On the contrary, the number of returning visitors witnessed a sharp rise at the beginning, and then again experienced a steady growth, before a significant reduction in the end of the period.

The figures for first time visitors and returning visitors stood at 8000 and around 3000 in 2000 respectively. The number of people who were visiting for the first time decreased to 4000, whereas the returning visitors increased to 10000 in 2000.

Thereafter, the number of returning visitors significantly surged to around 15000 in 2006, before declining to just below 14000 in 2008. The figures for the first time visitors considerably increased to 12000, and reached to its peak by the end of the period.
