Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for both visitor types. However, the report is under the 150-word minimum, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While the overview is clear, some data points are described with minor inaccuracies, and the lack of sufficient length prevents a more thorough development of the trends. To improve, ensure you meet the word count requirement by providing more detailed comparisons between the two categories throughout the period, rather than just listing figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'following this' and 'whereas'. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and punctuation errors, such as the misuse of commas and the lack of proper sentence boundaries. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring sentences are correctly punctuated would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with terms like 'fluctuated', 'notable decline', and 'steadily' used correctly. However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'experinced' and 'lucid' (which is used slightly unnaturally in this context). The range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to trends and data reporting, and ensure careful proofreading to eliminate spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'number of returning visitor increase'), incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'reached at'), and tense inconsistencies. While the meaning is generally understandable, these errors are persistent and distract from the quality of the writing. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring correct verb forms and prepositions will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
