Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to summarize the graph, but it fails to accurately report the data. The description of the trends is confusing and contains significant factual errors, such as claiming a 50% decrease in 2002 when the graph shows a different trend. The overview is weak and does not clearly highlight the main features or significant comparisons between the two categories. The response lacks a clear, professional tone suitable for an academic report, and the data interpretation is inconsistent with the provided visual information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by poor sentence structure and repetitive phrasing. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often misused or placed awkwardly, such as the frequent and incorrect use of 'Therefore' and 'But' to start sentences. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between first-time and returning visitors. The overall structure is mechanical rather than fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms like 'amount', 'increased', and 'decreased' throughout the text. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'returnin', 'heigher', 'masive', 'countinue', and 'peoples'. The lack of variety in reporting verbs and nouns prevents the student from achieving a higher score. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'amount of both visitor is'), tense usage (e.g., 'it can be not stoped'), and sentence construction. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with basic connectors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. The frequent errors in basic grammar indicate a need for a stronger foundation in sentence structure and verb tense consistency.
