Student answer (Band 4.0)

The chat illustrates that the number of first time visitor are first 8000 but then it reduces to 6000 in year . which is very rapid then in a year it again decreases and reached to 4000 which is half as compare to 8000 that means that the number of first time visitors are reducing . Then it increases to 6000 in year this is due to the great work of the authorities of the place .Then it reaches to 8000 that means that it become doubled as compare to 4000 then it reaches 10000 in year . Which is a great it reaches to 12000 which is very high in the history of that place . This is due to good view and clean roads of island but despite its good side it has dark side . Which may effect it badly in the future . The number of returning visitors are 2500 then it reaches to 4000 in half year . Then it extend to 6000 in a year then in the next year it reaches to 8000 . Which is almost two times as compare to 8000 which is not okay then it reaches to 10000 in year and it does not even stop there and reached to 12000 and again stretched to 14000 . Which is at alarming rate then it extend to 14500 in 6 months which is all time high . If people of the island keep going out at this rate then it will be difficult to maintain the population .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to describe the trends in the line graph, but it fails to provide a clear overview or identify the main features. The writing is highly subjective, including irrelevant personal commentary such as 'this is due to the great work of the authorities' and 'it has a dark side', which is not supported by the data. The description of the data is often inaccurate or confusing, such as describing a decrease as 'half as compare to 8000'. The response lacks a formal tone and fails to present a clear summary of the trends, which is essential for an Academic Task 1 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response is written as a single, dense paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow. There is no clear logical progression or paragraphing. Cohesive devices are used in a very repetitive and mechanical way, such as the constant use of 'Then it reaches' or 'Which is'. Referencing is often unclear, and the lack of sentence variety makes the text feel disjointed. The flow of information is hindered by the lack of structure and the inclusion of irrelevant, non-data-driven commentary.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic verbs like 'reaches', 'decreases', and 'increases' throughout the text. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'it become doubled as compare to 4000' and 'at alarming rate'. The student also uses informal or inappropriate phrasing, such as 'dark side' and 'not okay', which are not suitable for an academic report. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the number of first time visitor are'), tense consistency, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'Which is a great it reaches to 12000'. The use of punctuation is poor, with many sentences starting with 'Which' or 'Then' in a way that creates awkward syntax. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, repetitive clauses.
