Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 2.0

The response fails to address the task prompt. The instructions clearly ask for a summary of a line graph regarding visitors to Caryl Island. However, the student has written about a table concerning teacher salaries in five countries. This is a significant issue as the response is entirely off-topic. While the student attempts to report data, the failure to address the specific prompt provided results in a very low score for this criterion. To improve, ensure you carefully read the prompt and examine the visual data provided before beginning to write.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'To begin with', and 'Moreover'. However, the logical progression is hindered by the fact that the content does not match the task. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences feels mechanical. While the structure is present, the lack of relevance to the actual task makes the overall coherence ineffective. To improve, focus on ensuring that each paragraph logically follows the previous one and that cohesive devices are used to connect ideas naturally rather than just as structural markers.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for basic description, such as 'starting salary', 'maximum salary', and 'accounted for'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'recoded' instead of 'recorded', and 'different five various countries' which is redundant. The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology and avoid redundant phrasing. Focus on learning collocations related to data description, such as 'reached a peak of' or 'showed a significant disparity'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'the highest starting salary... were observed' (subject-verb agreement error), 'It has been taken time' (incorrect tense/passive voice usage), and 'a dominant among others countries' (article and preposition errors). While the meaning is generally understandable, these errors are frequent and distract the reader. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Reviewing basic sentence construction will help reduce the frequency of these errors.
