Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for both visitor types. You successfully identified the peak years and the overall direction of the data. However, the report lacks precision in data reporting. For example, stating 'around 8000' when the graph shows a different value, or using vague phrasing like 'people go back from the island' instead of 'returning visitors', makes the information less clear. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe the data points and use precise terminology to describe the categories provided in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow between sentences is often mechanical or disjointed. Phrases like 'To be continues with' are grammatically incorrect and do not function well as cohesive devices. The progression of ideas is sometimes confusing, particularly in the third paragraph where the comparison between the two visitor types is difficult to follow. Using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Subsequently', 'Furthermore') would improve the logical flow and make the relationships between the data points more explicit.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'declined', 'rising significantly', and 'upward trend'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation that occasionally hinder clarity, such as 'people go back from the island' instead of 'returning visitors' and 'it had an peak'. The repetition of 'around' and 'people' limits the sophistication of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise nouns and verbs related to data reporting and avoid repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('the number of visitors were'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('the first time people visit the island' at the end is an incomplete fragment). While the meaning is generally understandable, these errors are persistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that every sentence has a clear subject and a complete verb phrase. Proofreading for basic punctuation and sentence completion would also be beneficial.
