Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the initial trends and the final outcomes. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state that returning visitors peaked at '1500' in 2006, whereas the graph clearly shows a figure closer to 15,000. Additionally, the description of the trends is sometimes confusing, such as using the term 'population' to describe visitor numbers. While you have attempted to make comparisons, the lack of precision in reading the data points hinders the overall clarity of the summary. To improve, ensure you carefully verify the scale and units on the axes before writing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Secondly' is used inappropriately as there was no 'Firstly' mentioned. Phrases like 'in between 2000 and 2008' and 'through out the period' are slightly awkward. The logical progression is occasionally disrupted by confusing sentence structures, such as the attempt to contrast the visitor types in the second paragraph. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'number of visitors' and 'first time visitors'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'returned from there' (instead of 'returning visitors') and 'population of first time visitors' (which is incorrect in this context). The use of 'vise-versa' is also misused here. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'surpassed', or 'remained constant'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'number of returned visitors were increase') and incorrect verb tenses or forms (e.g., 'reached peaked', 'first time visitors higher than'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of basic sentence construction and tense consistency.
