Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the trends for both visitor types. However, the overview is somewhat weak; it lacks a clear synthesis of the most significant trends. While you mention that numbers 'rose' and 'dramatically increased', the description of the data points is occasionally inaccurate (e.g., stating returning visitors were 'students'). The summary of the data is generally relevant, but the lack of precise comparison between the two categories throughout the body paragraphs limits the score. To improve, ensure you clearly contrast the two lines rather than just describing them in isolation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes repetitive (e.g., starting multiple sentences with 'In 2000'). The logical progression is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'where these were rose' and 'and from there the data has seen'. While the overall structure is logical, the flow between sentences could be smoother. Using a wider variety of linking words like 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'meanwhile' would help improve the cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as using 'experincing' instead of 'first-time' and referring to visitors as 'students'. Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'fromm' and 'isand'. You rely on basic verbs like 'rose' and 'declined' repeatedly. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'surged', or 'remained stable', and ensure that your terminology accurately reflects the data provided in the prompt.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include 'the numbers of first experincing visitors were rose' (incorrect passive/active voice) and 'the returning visitors were peaked' (incorrect verb form). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the number of returning students were'. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and ensuring correct tense usage before attempting more complex grammatical forms. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms is essential.
