Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main features of the graph, but it lacks a clear overview and fails to present data accurately. For instance, the description of the trends is often confusing, such as stating that first-time visitors reached 8,000 in 2000 when the graph shows a different figure, and the interpretation of 'negative impacts' is subjective and irrelevant to a factual report. While the main trends are identified, the lack of precise data reporting and the inclusion of personal commentary rather than objective analysis prevents the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on reporting the data points clearly and grouping information logically without adding external opinions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and clauses; the text relies on repetitive phrasing like 'here we observed' and 'the down fall'. While there is a basic attempt to sequence the information chronologically, the lack of clear transitions between the two categories of visitors makes the structure feel disjointed. To improve, use clear paragraph breaks to separate the introduction/overview from the body paragraphs and employ a wider range of linking words such as 'in contrast', 'subsequently', and 'meanwhile' to guide the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. Phrases like 'down fall', 'increasrement', and 'positive increase ment' are either non-standard or incorrectly formed. The student struggles with word choice, using informal or inaccurate terms such as 'bad impact' and 'likely to 8000'. There is little evidence of the range required for higher bands, and the errors in spelling and word formation are frequent. To improve, focus on learning specific vocabulary for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'declined', and 'remained stable', and ensure that nouns and verbs are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. There are issues with sentence structure, such as run-on sentences and missing articles (e.g., 'in the year 2000 we the most of the people'). Verb tense usage is inconsistent, and there is a lack of complex sentence structures. Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary apostrophes used in words like 'down' fall'. The majority of the sentences are simple and contain errors. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practice using complex structures like relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to add variety.
