Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the trends for both visitor categories. You successfully highlight the starting points, the crossover in 2004, and the final figures in 2008. However, the overview is slightly weak; while you mention the shift in popularity, it could be more clearly integrated into the introduction or a dedicated summary paragraph. The data points are generally accurate, though the description of the 2002 figures is slightly confusing due to grammatical errors. To improve, ensure you clearly contrast the two categories throughout the report rather than just listing data points chronologically.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and an overview. You use some cohesive devices such as 'while', 'after that', and 'subsequently' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical phrasing, such as 'both trend was increased', which hinders the smooth progression of ideas. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the 2004 and 2006 data could be smoother. Overall, the structure is functional and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a band 6.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accounted for', 'constituted', and 'respectively'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'returned from there' (instead of 'returning visitors') and 'at the top level' (instead of 'reached a peak'). There is also a spelling error ('toutists'). To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise collocations and ensure that your vocabulary is used in a natural, academic context. The current range is sufficient to convey meaning but lacks the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the report. For example, 'the number of first time visitors were declined' should be 'the number... declined' (active voice) or 'was declined' (passive voice). Additionally, 'both trend was increased' contains subject-verb agreement errors. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the data, they are persistent throughout the text. You need to focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice when describing trends to improve your score.
