Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for both visitor types and the overall comparison. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, relying heavily on listing figures rather than synthesizing the data. For instance, the description of the 2002 data is slightly confusing due to the phrasing 'returning visitors number are increased that was 4000 and 10000 respectively'. While the key trends are identified, the report lacks a more sophisticated overview that highlights the broader patterns, such as the consistent dominance of returning visitors throughout the period. The response meets the requirements but lacks the analytical depth needed for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of the data. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical. Phrases like 'In 2000', 'In 2002', 'In 2004', and 'In 2006' are used at the start of almost every sentence, which creates a repetitive structure. While there is an attempt at an overview at the end, the transition between the body paragraphs and the conclusion is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would significantly enhance the flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. The student frequently repeats phrases such as 'first time visitors' and 'returning visitors' without using synonyms or referencing techniques to avoid repetition. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'visited returning time' and 'a small decreased in returning visitors'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles to use more sophisticated or academic terminology to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('returning visitors number are increased') and incorrect verb tenses ('8000 people first time visited'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the capitalization of 'First' and 'Returning' in the middle of sentences. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms.
