Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task requirements by summarizing the main trends in the line graph. You have identified the key categories and provided data points for both visitor types. However, the overview is somewhat weak; it focuses on specific data points rather than identifying the overall trends (e.g., the general upward trajectory for both groups). Additionally, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting, such as stating the number of returning visitors was below 4000 in 2002 and then surging to 10,000 in the same year, which is confusing and contradictory. To improve, focus on clear, comparative trends rather than listing every single data point.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'In the year 2000', 'In the year 2002', 'In the year 2004'). The transition between sentences could be smoother to better link the data points. While the paragraphing is functional, the logical flow within paragraphs is hampered by the repetitive structure of the sentences, which makes the writing feel like a list of facts rather than a cohesive summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, using terms like 'fluctuating', 'surged', and 'apogee'. However, the word 'apogee' is used slightly awkwardly in this context. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'had a fluctuation in visitors', which is not the most natural way to describe a trend. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise vocabulary for describing trends, such as 'upward trend', 'plateaued', or 'experienced a significant increase', and ensure collocations are natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'it had the highest number of above 12,000' and 'by 2002 it surged to 10,000' (when the previous sentence already mentioned 2002). These errors do not generally impede communication, but they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. You should focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and using prepositions correctly when describing data points. Improving the variety of sentence structures would also help to elevate the grammatical score.
