Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for both visitor types. You have successfully identified the peaks and the general trajectory of the data. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you state that first-time visitors peaked at 12,000 in 2008, but the graph shows a different figure. Additionally, the description of the returning visitors' trend is somewhat confusing, as you mention a spike to 10,000 in 2002, which does not align with the visual data provided. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are read precisely and that comparisons are more clearly linked to the specific years mentioned.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally clear, and you use some cohesive devices such as 'In terms of statistics' and 'Whereas' to link your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between sentences could be smoother. For example, the final paragraph feels slightly disjointed when discussing the variation after 2006. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points of the graph, using terms like 'peaked', 'gradual increase', and 'statistics'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'highest amount of new tourist' (should be 'tourists') and 'First time visitors graph dipped' (the graph does not dip, the number of visitors does). There is also a lack of more sophisticated or varied vocabulary to describe trends. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and ensure pluralization is consistent throughout your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'in the 2008 year' (should be 'in 2008'), 'new tourist' (should be 'tourists'), and 'by 12000 people' (which is grammatically awkward in this context). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas before 'but'. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
