Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the trends for both visitor types. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While you mention the trends, the comparison between the two categories could be more integrated. For instance, noting that returning visitors overtook first-time visitors early in the period would have strengthened the summary. The data points are generally accurate, but the description of the trends is occasionally imprecise, such as the vague reference to 'some where' at the end. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most significant differences or patterns rather than just listing data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use basic cohesive devices like 'In 2000', 'On the other hand', and 'Overall' to signal transitions. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed due to awkward phrasing, such as 'For few year the number of returning visitors increased slightly'. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and some sentences feel like a list of data rather than a cohesive narrative. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. You rely on repetitive phrasing such as 'the number of' and 'increased'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'stayed toped' and 'the figure was at its all time highest'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little attempt to use less common lexical items or precise descriptive language (e.g., 'fluctuation' is used, but the context is slightly imprecise). Expanding your range of synonyms for trends and data would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You make several grammatical errors, such as 'the number of visitors who are returning visitors are stayed toped' (subject-verb agreement and tense issues) and 'For few year' (missing article). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after periods and unnecessary commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage to improve clarity.
