Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided data points to support your descriptions. You covered both categories (first-time and returning visitors) across the specified timeframe. However, the response lacks a clear 'overview' paragraph that synthesizes the most significant trends at a glance. While you included a concluding sentence, it is somewhat confusingly phrased regarding the 'decline' and 'increase'. To reach a higher band, ensure you highlight the most striking differences or overall patterns (e.g., the fact that returning visitors generally outnumbered first-time visitors for most of the period) in a dedicated overview section.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with each focusing on a specific category. The progression of ideas is generally clear. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'The blue line represents...', 'The red line representing...'). There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect the sentences and ideas more fluidly. Improving the variety of transition signals would help the flow of the response significantly. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different data sets.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have used an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'decline', 'gradually increases', and 'popularity trend'. However, the vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'showing a decline in popularity' when referring to the number of visitors, which is slightly imprecise. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and use more precise terminology to describe graph movements, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are some grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'The red line representing the returning visitors show' should be 'shows' (subject-verb agreement). Additionally, some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'that is nearly half of the number in 2000'. Increasing the variety of complex structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help improve your score. Punctuation is generally handled well, but ensure that your sentence structures are consistently accurate.
