Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for both visitor types. You successfully identified the key turning points and provided data to support your descriptions. However, the overview is somewhat weak; while you mention growth, it lacks a clear synthesis of the overall relationship between the two categories. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most significant trend, such as the fact that returning visitors became the dominant group by the end of the period. The data points are generally accurate, but ensure you distinguish clearly between the start and end points to provide a more comprehensive summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with each focusing on a specific visitor category. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'As for', which help guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the structure could be improved by using more sophisticated linking phrases to connect the trends of the two groups more fluidly. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different data sets, which aids readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'surpassing', 'declined', and 'spiked' to describe trends. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and possessive forms, such as 'it's highest' (should be 'its highest'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and ensure you are using possessive pronouns correctly without apostrophes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with possessive pronouns ('it's' instead of 'its') and tense consistency. For example, 'it had decline' should be 'it had declined'. There are also some minor punctuation issues and awkward phrasing in the introductory sentence. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
