Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the trends for both visitor types. However, the reporting of data is occasionally inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating that returning visitors reached 10,000 in 2002 and then 12,000 two years later is inconsistent with the visual data. The overview is present but lacks precision in describing the overall trends. While the key features are addressed, the lack of clarity in data reporting and some minor inaccuracies in interpreting the timeline prevent this from reaching a higher band. The response would benefit from more careful verification of the figures against the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'However' are used to signal transitions between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'it is accounted for 12000 returning visitors'. Referencing is generally clear, but the mechanical nature of some transitions makes the progression feel slightly rigid. Overall, the information is arranged coherently, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, though it lacks sophistication and contains several word-choice errors. Phrases like 'in increase order' and 'small declination' are non-standard. The student attempts to use descriptive verbs like 'delineates' and 'witnessed', which is positive, but the misuse of terms like 'declination' (instead of 'decline' or 'decrease') limits the score. There is a reliance on basic descriptors, and the range of vocabulary is not sufficiently flexible to convey the data with precision. Improving collocation and word forms would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader. Examples include 'first time visitors was started to rose' (incorrect verb tense and subject-verb agreement) and 'which than showed' (incorrect word choice 'than' instead of 'then'). There are also issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'in beginning of 2002'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex structures, keeping the score in the mid-range.
