Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, including the overall trends and some specific data points. However, the reporting of data is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For instance, you state that first-time visitors were 8,000 in 2000 and increased to 12,000 in 2008, but later mention a 'downward fall' to 4,000 in 2002, which creates confusion. The overview is present but lacks a clear synthesis of the most significant trends. To improve, ensure that the data points cited are accurate and that the summary highlights the most striking differences between the two categories rather than just listing individual years.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as 'In case of returning visitors' or 'In conclusion, it is cleared that'. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by repetitive phrasing and awkward transitions between sentences. While the paragraphing is logical, the internal flow within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the data points more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic verbs like 'increased', 'grows', and 'fall', and there are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'downward fall' (redundant) and 'accelerates to' (inappropriate collocation for visitor numbers). There are also minor errors in word form, such as 'cleared' instead of 'clear'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'a significant rise'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'first time visitors was 8000') and incorrect use of articles or prepositions (e.g., 'in 2000 year'). The punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent sentence construction will significantly improve your score.
