Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response provides a clear overview and identifies key trends, such as the decline and subsequent recovery of first-time visitors and the general upward trend for returning visitors. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the description of the 2004 data for returning visitors is clear, but the comparison between the two groups in 2006 and 2008 is slightly confusing due to imprecise phrasing. While the main features are highlighted, the report would benefit from more precise data referencing and a more structured comparison between the two categories throughout the period.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'In 2000', 'But', and 'On the other hand'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'there is a significant turns in returning visitors'. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved to create a more natural, cohesive narrative. Paragraphing is appropriate for the task type.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe trends (e.g., 'declined', 'increased', 'reached'). However, there are instances of unnatural word choice and minor errors, such as 'illustrates the counting of' instead of 'illustrates the number of' and 'highest visitors ratio' instead of 'highest number of visitors'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more varied synonyms and precise collocations related to data description.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the lowest number of first time visitor was' (should be plural 'visitors') and 'at the starting of 2000' (should be 'at the start of'). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. A greater focus on proofreading for pluralization and prepositional accuracy would be beneficial.
