Student answer (Band 5.0)
The line graph shows the numbers of first time visitors and returning visitors of CaryI Island from 2000 to 2008.
The graph is clearly showing that the first time visitors ratio is high in the start then in the up coming years the ratio is down, i think this will effect the island tickets also. Then the graph is showing the ratio will remains high in th e up coming years from 4000 to 10000 plus visitors. I think the first time visitors ratio is only decreases in couple of years but high in mostly years.
On the other hand we will see that the returing visitors ratio are constantly high as compare to first time visitors, i think these visitors are fully engaged with the island that why they regulalry visit the island.
I think as we can see the comparsion this will show the returning visitors ratio are truely high and maybe its because of the adults ratio.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of objectively summarizing the data, the writer includes personal opinions ('i think this will effect the island tickets', 'i think these visitors are fully engaged') and speculative reasoning that is not supported by the graph. The description of the trends is vague and inaccurate, failing to identify key features such as the starting points, the intersection of the lines, or the final figures. The response lacks a clear overview and fails to report specific data points, which is essential for this task type.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is illogical and repetitive. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'i think' to start sentences, which creates a disjointed flow. The referencing is unclear, and the lack of logical transitions between the description of the two visitor types makes the text difficult to follow. The overall structure does not facilitate a clear summary of the information provided in the graph.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'ratio', 'high', and 'down'. There is no attempt to use academic or descriptive language appropriate for reporting data (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable'). Furthermore, there are frequent errors in word choice, such as using 'ratio' when referring to the number of visitors, and spelling errors like 'returing' and 'regulalry'. The range is insufficient to convey the information with precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There is a lack of control over basic sentence structures, with many run-on sentences and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'the graph is showing the ratio will remains high'). Punctuation is inconsistent, and there is a lack of complex sentence structures. The errors are frequent and pervasive, significantly affecting the clarity of the writing.
