Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for both visitor categories. You successfully identified the overall upward trend and made relevant comparisons between the two groups. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, you mention the first-time visitors reached 4000, but the graph shows a different trajectory. Additionally, the statement that returning visitors were higher throughout the years is factually incorrect according to the graph, as first-time visitors were higher in 2000. To improve, ensure you carefully verify the data points against the axes and provide a more precise summary of the key trends rather than listing every fluctuation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Overall', and 'In comparison' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. For example, the transition between the first and second paragraphs could be smoother. The use of cohesive devices is adequate for a Band 6, but to reach a higher band, you should aim for more varied and natural linking phrases that connect sentences and paragraphs more fluidly without relying on repetitive structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'upward trend', 'fluctuated', and 'dramatically'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'trnd', 'drametically', and 'thsn', which detract from the quality of the writing. Additionally, some word choices are slightly awkward, such as 'touched the number of'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, the frequent spelling mistakes and limited variety in descriptive language prevent a higher score. Focusing on accurate spelling and using more precise collocations for describing trends will help improve your lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('returning visitors was', 'their is an upward trend') and incorrect verb forms ('fallen steadily' instead of 'fell'). Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, you should focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your verb tenses are consistent when describing past data. Proofreading for basic grammatical slips will significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
