Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main features of the graph, but the information is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the description of the trends for first-time visitors is contradictory and does not clearly reflect the data provided in the graph. The overview is missing, and the reporting of figures is inconsistent, making it difficult for the reader to follow the trends. The response fails to make meaningful comparisons between the two categories, which is a key requirement of the task. To improve, you should focus on identifying the overall trends (e.g., which category was higher overall) and selecting key data points to support your descriptions rather than listing numbers in a confusing manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response uses basic paragraphing and some linking words like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' to organize the information. However, the progression of ideas is often unclear due to the inaccurate reporting of data. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inappropriate, such as the awkward transition between sentences. Referencing is also problematic, as it is not always clear which data points are being discussed. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and use a wider range of cohesive devices to connect your ideas more naturally, ensuring that the logical flow of the report is maintained throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'number', 'increased', and 'decreased'. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the numbers of first time visitors is starts form 2008', which hinders clarity. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'declined', or 'remained stable', and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the numbers... is starts'), tense usage (e.g., 'was go to visit'), and sentence structure. The response relies mostly on simple sentences, and attempts at more complex structures are often faulty and confusing. Punctuation is also inconsistent, which further affects the readability of the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and article usage.
