Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you identify the main trends, the description is incomplete. You stop abruptly in the middle of describing the returning visitors, failing to cover the data for the entire period (up to 2008) or provide a comprehensive comparison. To improve, ensure you complete the analysis of all data points provided in the graph and provide a more detailed overview of the trends. The current response is too brief to fully address the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and repetitive way, such as starting sentences with 'Looking first time visitors' and 'Looking returning visitors'. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and the abrupt ending makes the overall structure feel disjointed. To improve, use a wider range of transition signals (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Subsequently', 'Meanwhile') to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure the response is fully developed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'visitor', 'visit', and 'increased'. There are also errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'first time visitor count is increased' and 'returning visitor rise fastly'. The lack of variety in reporting verbs and adverbs makes the writing feel simplistic. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'a steady climb', or 'a marginal decline', and ensure correct word forms are used.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The line chart compare' (subject-verb agreement), 'between 2000 to 2008' (incorrect preposition usage), and 'In 2002 had 4000' (missing subject). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage for past data, and ensure that every sentence has a clear subject and verb. Expanding your range of sentence structures will also help improve your score.
